Interval energy data, or meter data, are a series of measurements of energy consumption or average demand over a time period. The analysis requires time periods of one hour or shorter (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes). A single reading will have one or two "timestamps" (the beginning of the time period, the end, or both), and the energy consumption (usually kWh for electricity) or average demand (usually kW). Any consumption or demand units are acceptable. Interval data often contains other types of readings, such as kVAr, or peak demand. You don't have to remove these, will ignore them.
Most of the interval energy data we get comes from electric utilities. Many of them make this information available to customers at little or no cost. We maintain a list of utilities and other sources here. But can work with meter data in any format available to you, so however you can get it, send it to us!
US$20. A report analyzes between 3 to 13 months of data for one meter. For example if your facility has just one electric meter, and you send us a year of energy use data for it, your total cost is US$20. You can pay by credit card, or be invoiced. And if the Meter Insights report does not meet your expectations for any reason, there's no charge.
Yes, we have analyzed facilities on all continents (except Antarctica). uses international databases for weather, energy prices, and greenhouse gas emission factors. All energy costs and savings are reported in local currency. The Meter Insights report is currently only available in English, but we welcome the opportunity to work with local partners to offer other languages.
No, we can analyze almost any energy commodity, including natural gas, propane, LPG, fuel oil, steam, and chilled water. As long as your energy use data has hourly readings or shorter (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes), can analyze it.
Not much. You'll provide a facility name for the Meter Insights report. This can be generic, something like "My Business". We also ask for the first 3 characters of your zip or postal code, with which selects the nearest weather station. Finally, you choose "residential", "commercial", or "industrial" to describe your facility. We use this to determine energy prices.
Any type, large or small. It can be a single building, or a campus, or part of a building. We don't recommend for single family residences, mainly because the Meter Insights report may be too detailed.
The Meter Insights report needs at least 3 months of readings. A full year or longer is recommended.
No, looks for energy use patterns at the seasonal, weekly, daily, and hourly levels. It then looks for unusual events outside of these patterns. So the analysis requires hourly readings or shorter (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes).
No, can analyze meter data in any format available to you. This includes spreadsheets, CSV, text, xml, etc. You don't need to "clean" the data, fill in gaps, or reformat in any way. Just send it to us.
Yes, we love Green Button data! was one of the first applications to accept Green Button data back in 2012. We are also a Green Button Connect application for some utilities. Click here to see the list.
Sometimes it's good to know your facility is operating exactly as expected! But if the report is not of value to you for any reason, we will provide a full refund.
